  I attended the meeting tonight.....

  i went to the meeting tonight to check out things in the local congregation.

  this spiritual paradise is showing a few cracks.

  when i arrived about ten minutes before the meeting started, i felt like a ghost.

  What a horrendous story. But so strikingly familiar. I was an "undf'ed" one too. The elders wives set the example of making me invisible. It was very hurtful at the time.
  I wish I had had your sense of humor when I was going through it!

  I got my nerve up, gonna try this again!

  i first posted to this board as "truman" about 2 months ago.

  it was a time of deep depression, confusion, fear, and paranoia for me, as i had just 3 weeks before discovered that everything i had believed for 27 years was only a pipe dream.. everyone was very welcoming, but after only a few posts, i got so afraid i had to stop.

  i was fearful of revealing too much, being somehow discovered, and of the possibility of saying the wrong thing, incurring the ire of my betters here.

  One particular phrase in your last post struck me.

  I only made one sacrifice--er--disciple, my 1st born son.

  
  I sense that you are beating yourself up over this. I can relate to this. I have about nine or a little more people under my belt that I "helped" to see the truth. It bothers me immensely. I can't imagine how I would feel if it was my son.
  Please don't beat yourself for this. You were doing what you thought was right!!
  You can only go on and do what is right for him now!!! Sounds like you have a grip on it!
  You are in my thoughts as you go through the ordeal of the beginning of a wonderful journey, albeit painful now!!

  i think what the wts did about notifying relatives is deplorable!!!!!!.

  Aluminum is dangerous!

  the watchtower was extremely preoccupied by what they called aluminum poisoning, and they published death rates because of this in their magazines.

  the increased use of aluminum cooking utensils was the reason for the problem, they said.. not everyone who uses aluminum gets cancer, of course, but all stand a chance of getting it, they wrote in the the golden age september 23.

  1936.. read this article for yourself, and take a closer look at the medical expertise inside the watchtower!.

  Actually, not to start a fray or anything, but the WT taught that aluminum was demonized. Thinker has quotes from them to that effect in his file.
  It would have been great if they were ahead of time in their thinking with Alzheimer's ect. But I don't think that was the case. The demon thing was the point at first.

  WELCOME to the board T/LMR,
  That has got to be the absolute coolest way I have ever read that someone has found out the truth about the truth. Way to go!!! Speaks to me of intelligence and a mind that was open all along but just didn't know it.
  I can relate. My partents and two of my brothers and their wives are still in the Borg. I am dealing with the backlash of da'ing myself in June of 2000.
  Everyone has to handle their circumstances their own way. Only you can know the right things to do with your sons.

  NEED HELP !!! 7000 yrs. ??

  the wt claims that each "day" in genesis (chap.1) is really 7000 yrs.

  can anyone provide an explaination of this belief?

  please list references from wt literature or scripture that backs up this idea.. personally, i can find nothing; which is interesting since so much jw doctrine and teaching hinges on this number "7000".. thinker

  Thanks for all the invaluable responses. In case you haven't figured it out yet, Thinker is a non-witness. I was raised a witness and was in it for almost forty years.
  Usually I have no problem explaining things he asks, but when it came to this 7000 years thing, I was stumped!
  I used the words "complicated and convoluted" LOL. "Great minds think alike".

  first, id like to thank the many posters on this board (and the old h2o) who made my exiting passage through the entrapping maze of wt ideology a relatively expeditious and much less painful possibility then it would have been otherwise.

  the value of the service you perform in helping to dispel the sense of paralyzing of isolationism felt by those who begin to realize the truth about the wts and its pompous, self-designated status a god sole representative on earth today, cant be overstated.

  ive been a lurker here for a least a year and i was finally prompted to write by the inevitable reappearance of the pedantic you know.

  as many may know, i'm still a teenager.

  i'm not willing to reveal my age, which is one less than 17 or one more than 15. but i just wanted to get your guys' opinion on sex before marriage.

  a lot of people here have kinda lost their "watchtower" and biblical standards as i have gathered.

  You have really gotten a lot of excellent advice on this.
  I just want to say that I am so impressed with your maturity and insight. You seem like a very reasonable and thoughtful young guy. I wish you had been around when I was sixteen!!
  I have faith that you will make the right choices and grow into a person who will benefit society!!!
  Just keep on maturing and growing.
  I am also of the group that thinks being intimate with the person you are thinking about spending the rest of your life with is very important! Before marriage. But only responsibly. And not just darting around gratifying yourself. You seem to have an excellent grip on the proper mind set!!

  Volunteers to help with the site...

  i'm sure you've all noticed that we have grown quite a bit over the last few months and seem to get busier every week with more people joining every day.. while i do my best to read and monitor all the threads on the forum to make sure that no one causes trouble it is becoming very difficult to do this all the time.

  with this in mind, i'd like to ask for some volunteers to help keep an eye on things who i will setup with some extra permissions.. i don't intend for the forum to be 'ruled over with an iron fist' or anything like that.

  it would really be so that we could respond quickly if anyone started causing trouble (eg.

  I understand the overwhelming need for help. I have often wondered about the drain on your time.
  Moderating is a little scary to me though. It could turn into a power thing. Which we are all very familiar with. Your balance and lenience have amazed me over the months!!
  All I can say, is if you decide to go with this plan, choose wisely!! Which I know you will.
